King's Maths School is delighted to have been featured in The Times, alongside its sister maths schools and U-Maths, for the impact we are having on girls in STEM.

Entitled Girls excel as maths schools multiply (06 October 2024), the article highlights the positive work of KCLMS and the other maths schools in enticing girls to study and thrive there and playing an important role in their future choice of STEM careers.

Two of our Class of 2020 alumnae, Nandini Shiralkar and Estelle McCool, were interviewed for the piece in which they discussed how KCLMS had shaped and influenced them.

Nandini said KCLMS ‘set a bar for intellectual curiosity’, while Estelle reflected that studying at a maths school ‘let me fully explore my interest in maths without defining myself solely by it’. In the piece, they talked about their university studies and career paths since leaving KCLMS.

The article also quotes the female heads of Cambridge Maths School and Surrey Maths School who underscored the importance of having relevant representation and role models. Mr Dan Abramson OBE flagged the work of the burgeoning UMaths network, noting that there are now 8 Maths Schools open, with 3 further schools approved to open. See map here.
